Food Tech pupils get a taste of Runshaw
25 June 2019
As part of the GCSE Food course, Priory pupils are regularly invited to Runshaw College for a taster day. On the trip the pupils get to experience life at the college, use the facilities available and have the chance to explore their Foxhole’s Restaurant.
This trip has been hugely successful over the years and we have found it most beneficial for the pupils to attend. Priory has built strong and trusted links with Runshaw College and our students are highly regarded by the staff and tutors.
Eleven of Priory’s talented foodies went along to the hospitality and catering event last Thursday, accompanied by Mrs Lewis Lavender, Lead Teacher for Food & Nutrition. This was a great experience, thoroughly enjoyed by all who went. Whilst there, pupils learnt how to make sausage rolls and millionaires shortcake all washed down by handmade mocktails.
Pupils gained an understanding of knife skills and techniques by de-boning a chicken and filleting a fish. The session also involved a demonstration on how to flambé a pancake, followed by an event management workshop.
Mrs Lewis Lavender said, “The pupils behaved exceptionally well and took away lots of insight from such a valuable day”.
Well done: K Blackwell, J Brian, H Ellis, A Lord, S Lord, L Richardson, O Tomlinson, A Wallace, E Watt, J Whalley, J Wilkinson.
