Image of Enterprise with Heart: Pupils Raise £1,478 for Derian House

Priory’s Business & Enterprise pupils raised almost £1,500 for Derian House – enough to support their Sibling Support group for three months.

Whilst in Year 10, the pupils took part in the Derian House £50 Junior Business Challenge, where they had to turn £50 into as much money as they could through fundraising efforts in a week at the end of last term.

One group, Dev, Charlie, Ciello and Zain, and their helpers, worked tirelessly washing staff’s - and some visitors’ - cars throughout the week.

They said: “We washed 21 staff cars and worked on it each day over a week. They were really impressed with our ability!

“Halfords donated the car shampoo, sponges and other essential resources. It was fun.”

Sienna and Keira organised a non-uniform day.

“I am enjoying the Business course and I enjoyed organising this. We went around to different classrooms collecting £1 from all the pupils.”

Archie, Ellis and Lewis organised a raffle.

“We got prizes from local shops who were extremely generous. We also walked around school getting pupils to guess the name of a teddy bear which Smyths had donated. We also sold sweets.

“It was a good experience as we learnt how to make a profit and also it felt good to do something for charity.”

Noah and Alan sold sweets and drinks on sports day.

“It was a good day to do it and we sold out. Tesco and some other shops donated the goods. We set up in one spot and we were busy.”

There was also a bake sale, staff v pupil penalty shoot-out and face painting.

Ann-Marie Fishwick, Derian’s Community Fundraiser said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. They have done such a good job and their passion has shone through with the donations.

“This is enough money to support our Sibling Support group for three months which is amazing, giving them much-needed days out and more.”

Business & Enterprise teacher, Miss Gregson, said:  "We would like thank the entire school community for participating and contributing both physically and financially to our Derian House fundraising week. We are exceptionally proud of our Year 11 Business group whom have raised a final total of: £1478.51.”
