Here's what our Cool Readers Club is all about...
These are our reading stars put forward by their English teacher. We interview them about their current book, what they like reading about and what they like to do when they’re not reading. Introducing Harry...
Harry has been inspired by the book he has just finished and has a new hero in Jamie Johnson.
The Year 8 has just finished ‘World Class’ by Don Freedman which is Book 5 in the series about Jamie Johnson.
“The series is about Jamie Johnson and it follows his life from primary school, where he gets bullied, onto playing football and playing in the World Cup for Scotland.
“It’s a really inspiring book and ‘World Class’ is my favourite book in the series.
“I must admit I never used to like reading but now, thanks to Mrs Gidden, I have got into it and now I read at home.”
Harry plays football for Sir Tom Finney JFC and also enjoys boxing.
“Everyone’s dream is to be a footballer but I prefer boxing. I have just got back into it after breaking my arm a couple of times and having operations over the years.
“My favourite subject in school is PE but I also enjoy computing and French.”
Harry's English teacher, Mrs Robinson-Ali, added: "Harry is a keen reader and is just as involved in his own reading as he is with our class reader at the moment, 'Stone Cold'. Harry is totally absorbed by the plot and is making some very clever predictions about what might happen to the novel's protagonist, Link. It's a pleasure to see him so engaged and keen to read on as the story develops. He's superb at analysing the language in the text, too!"
