Year 7 Speak Out At Competition
4 January 2023
Last half term, all of Year 7 worked hard to write and deliver a speech on a topic that’s important to them. These speeches were then delivered to their class peers where the best were chosen to compete in the grand final on the 14th December 2022.
Assistant Leader of English, Mrs Robinson-Ali, said, "Every single pupil performed to the best of their ability in the semi-finals in class. It was a very tricky to judge who would go through to the finals!"
Throughout the process, all pupils demonstrated incredible confidence and resilience. Some were genuinely daunted but overcame their nerves and presented engaging speeches. It was great not just to see the relief, but also the pride the pupils clearly felt in themselves and their achievement.
Our winner was Oliver C who talked passionately about Rockets. 1st runner up was Jacob R and 2nd runner up was Noah J who spoke about the World Cup.
The finals took place in the Auditorio, which was fantastic after hosting the competition online over the last two years. Because all of the students were there together there was a lively atmosphere and it was a pleasure to see and hear the other Year 7 pupils cheer on and encourage their peers.
The competition was extremely close, as the judges began their deliberations, with some very intense discussions going on before deciding a winner.
For their triumph, Mr Taylor and Mrs Robinson-Ali presented the three winners with their certificates, vouchers and chocolate goodies - winner Oliver also took away the glamorous trophy!
Mrs Robinson-Ali, said, “I have two Year 7 classes and I was bursting with pride as the contestants stood up to perform their speeches. I was blown away by how supportive and encouraging the other Year 7 pupils were and was swept along by the buzz that the Christmas speech competition always creates. It was difficult to choose a winner, but in the end we all agreed that Oliver’s speech was passionate, engaging and included lots of rhetorical devices. The staff and students did an incredible job! I can’t wait for next year!”
Well done to all our finalists: Megan B, Oliver C, Tancho T, Jazmn K, Naeem K, Esa B, Noah J, Jacob R, Zara W and Lucy H.
