Year 7 & 8 get involved with British Science Week
23 March 2023
British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). This year's theme - connections!
In celebration of British Science Week, pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 have been applying their knowledge to STEM challenges.
Year 7s have be learning the science behind race cars and applied this by designing and building balloon car racers.
Science Teacher, Mr Cox, who led the activities at Priory said, "The designs and builds this year have been exceptional with plenty of cars travelling significant distances simply powered by a single balloon!"
Phoebe, Wren, Excellence, Naeem and Shivam couldn't wait to demonstrate their designs however, with a couple of classes still to finish their cars, will it be a close race?
The Year 8s have been studying the science behind large structures and the importance of triangles in large scale builds and relished putting their building skills to the test with the spaghetti tower challenge.
Mr Cox added, "There is an extra competitive element to the Year 8 challenges with pupils competing with their classmates and then an overall winning team to be selected over the coming week!"
