Summer School 2023
22 August 2023
How did Summer School go then?
We hope that all our Year 7 pupils who could join us for Summer School had fun whilst getting to know their new school, meeting the teachers and making new friends.
The 3-day event was led by Humanities teacher, Miss Ackers, to benefit our new intake's transition to high school. With a 'space and time' theme, pupils took part in many fun activities to develop their team building skills, independence and communication. Pupils were shown how to access the ICT systems and set up their online accounts in advance of their first day, learnt about the Eat Well Guide and decorated alien cupcakes, navigated the school through treasure hunts, enjoyed circus skills workshops, and of course...the inflatables!
Before the pupils headed home on the last day, parents were invited to see their children collect certificates and watch a video montage of the event.
Lead teacher, Miss Ackers, said, "Summer School was an enriching experience for all and couldn’t have gone any better. The students were able to ease their anxieties and have fun. I am proud of the student helpers who volunteered their time to aid the teachers and I’m pleased that the new Year 7s found it helpful and enjoyable. I'm sure that the event has gone a long way to help our new pupils to settle in at Priory with confidence."
A special mention to the staff and Year 8 & 11 pupils below who volunteered their time to come in during their holidays to support the event:
Year 8 - Esa B, Idris A, Junior V, Jacob H, Daniel McC, Will B, Bradley I
Year 10 - Megan H, Jess M, Abigail M, Olivia B, Lucy B, India P, Mylie S, Lily McM, Katie H
Day 1
Day 1 of our space themed Summer School has been a success and the students have enjoyed playing team building games, making yummy alien cakes and orienteering around the school.
Tomorrow we have our fun active day so we recommend a change of clothes in case the students get wet on the inflatables. See you tomorrow Year 7!
Day 2
Day 2 of Summer School has been a jam packed day of fun. The students have practised a variety of circus skills and of course been on our star attraction; the inflatables! Even the teachers have enjoyed themselves today.
I’m sure the students are feeling tired and happy and we can’t wait to see them tomorrow for their final day of Summer School.
Our celebration assembly begins at 2.15pm (please come earlier to get a seat) and we welcome parents to attend and see what their children have been getting up to.
Day 3
Day 3 of Summer School and we’ve finally waved goodbye to the students until their first day in September.
Today the students have had English, Computing, Maths and Science sessions and have blown us away once again with their hard work and enthusiasm.
Thank you to all of the students who have made Summer School so special and thank you to the parents and guardians for your support in the run up.
We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 5th September.
