Priory pupils will be tweeting book reviews in a new scheme that started in February.

English Teacher, Mr Wall, has received a special delivery of 480 books to encourage reading.

To bring them into today’s world, the Year 7-10 pupils will read the books and then write their book reviews in the form of a Tweet, restricted to the old format of 140 characters.

“This is the start of a long term project to encourage more reading,” said Mr Wall. “We have spent £2,000 on Barrington Stoke books which are aimed at 12-16 year-olds.  “They are a mixture of mystery, factual and teenage books. These books can be read reasonably quickly and then we want pupils to their write reviews as a Tweet to keep in line with today’s society.

“We will be spending another £1,000 on books so the students have 700 titles to select from.  From September, we aim to introduce into school 15 minutes of reading for everyone in the DEAR - Drop Everything And Read scheme. School will stop and there will be 15 minutes of solid reading.

“I think it’s vital as, with other things going on in life, we want our pupils to develop a love of books.”
