Most pupils have already met Mrs Farley even before they begin their school years at Priory.  Mrs Farley is the first person most prospective pupils see – and she is amazed how her job has grown.

Mrs Farley is the Transition & Integration Manager at Priory having just returned from a year’s maternity leave.  It means she visits primary schools, she organises the primary school events at Priory, as well as helping new starters in Years 7-10 settle in.

Mrs Farley did the job previously for two years after starting out at the PE department at the school.  Priory has grown in terms of numbers – the school is full for the Year 7s starting in September, with 180 the total - and she says that pupils from further away are now signing up.

“We have 180 students from a total of 38 primary schools, some as far away as Southport and Fulwood, starting in September,” said Mrs Farley. “It has just grown and grown.

“Years ago this was an extra role on a teacher’s job which may have taken a couple of hours a week but now it is a dedicated role and one I relish.

“I was a student at Priory myself between 1996-2001 so I know how daunting a first day here can be, everything we do at Priory is to make sure it’s an easy transition.”

Mrs Farley’s job entails visiting the primary schools, and also organising events for Year 4s and 5s to experience Priory.  “I go into schools but also every week Year 5s come to Priory and have a day with us doing art, food technology, science and PE lessons so they can get used to the secondary school atmosphere.

“We also have events for their Gifted & Talented pupils and I am also the Schools Sports Co-ordinator, working with South Ribble Sports Partnership, delivering sport and competitions to the primary schools.  This can mean I am recognised quite a lot which is nice, as the students remember me and see me as a link with Priory.

“I loved my time at Priory and it’s great to see new pupils come here and thrive.”
