After taking their GCSE exam in Astronomy this week, the four members of the Astronomy Club can finally relax and take in the exciting news that they have been invited to attend Stephen Hawking’s interment on 15 June.

The news came before we broke for half term that Priory had been successful in a public ballot as one of a small number of schools from across the country whose pupils will have the opportunity to attend Stephen Hawking’s interment at Westminster Abbey.

The Hawking family wanted 1000 members of the public to have the opportunity to attend a service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Professor Hawking, during which his ashes will be interred near the grave of Sir Isaac Newton.

Assistant Headteacher, Ms Young, who runs the club, said: “We were very fortunate to be chosen. Having shown outstanding commitment to studying GCSE Astronomy after school, I have invited its four members to attend the service with me.”

The news also follows on from their nomination for the ‘Young Scientist of the Year’ Education Award which take place at the Charter Theatre on 20 June.
