Year 9 pupil, David, has made his debut for Lancashire’s pool team – and now dreams of playing for England.

The 14-year-old represented Lancashire Under 18s in the Inter-County Pool Championships in Great Yarmouth earlier this month.

“It was a great experience, it was amazing as it was very professional. There were cameras everywhere and some of it was on YouTube,” said David.

David won matches against Nottinghamshire and Essex and got through to the semi-final but lost to Kent.

He has been playing pool for around 10 years and got into it almost accidentally.

“We went on holiday to Spain and there was a pool table there. My mum could play a bit so she got me playing and I have taken it from there.”

He is a member of the Stephen Hendry Snooker & Pool Club in Preston.

“I don’t have a pool table at home so I play at weekends there. I probably practise around five hours every week.

“Playing for your county is based on your performances in competitions and I must admit I was happy for a week when I heard I had been picked for Lancashire.”

It was even better as he is following in the footsteps of another Priory pupil, Class of 2018, Josh Traynor, who represents England.

“He was my captain for Lancashire and he is someone I admire. I want to follow in his footsteps and play for England.”
