Year 7 pupils had the privilege of virtually meeting children's 'How to Train Your Dragon' author, Cressida Cowell, on Wednesday morning as a thank you for our recent Read for Good readathon fundraising.

The author and Children’s Laureate gave us writing tips, talked about her new book and spoke about the magic powers of reading!
She told us: “Books should be like sweets, not Brussel sprouts, books are magic!”

Cressida gave our budding authors some great tips on becoming a writer. They ranged from doing lots of research into topics that might be relevant to your story, to drawing a map of the world you want to create. She also recommended using tiny bits of truth to make stories, characters and settings more real.

English teacher, Mrs Elliott, added, "We were also thrilled when the first question asked to Cressida, from the 100s that were undoubtedly submitted beforehand, was from our school! So lovely to see Cressida Cowell saying “Hi to Penwortham Priory Academy” whilst waving (via Zoom) at our lovely pupils!"

Read for Good is a charity that encourages children to read, inspiring reluctant readers to give reading a go, and keen readers to read more widely. In April Key Stage 3 pupils raised over £1000 with 20% of that coming back to the school in free books. To find out more about the Read for Good charity go to >> https://readforgood.org
