Year 7 become district champions

Monday night saw Priory host the district 7-a-side football tournament for Year 7s.

Playing in a group of four, Priory started with a 5-0 victory over Brownedge St Mary’s before a 2-0 win against Walton-le-Dale and a 5-0 win against Balshaws.

Topping the group meant meeting Hutton in the semi-finals. It was an enthralling game with very few chances and some superb defending on show from both teams. A 0-0 draw meant the game went to penalties and Priory came out on top 3-2 after four penalties each.

The final saw Priory meet Balshaws for the second time and it was a much closer affair. Clinical finishing and a creative edge ensured a 2-0 win and overall victory.

The team was a credit to the school with their hard work and determined attitude throughout. Special mention must go to Birley who went five games without conceding in open play!
