When the BBC had a Bitesize careers day at Priory
8 November 2024
Last Thursday, the BBC Bitesize Careers tour visited Priory to showcase a selection of careers with Year Groups 8-11.
The tour aims to visit 125,000 secondary school students across the UK in a bid to inspire young people about their future job prospects and forms part of a wider remit of the BBC to inform, educate and entertain.
In a panel-style set up, the event introduced pupils to three ordinary people from different job sectors in the region in a bid to spark their imagination with regards to what might be achievable for them in the future. The presenter probed each of the panellists to offer their own input into their career journey.
At the end of each session, infamous rugby ball was thrown around the audience for whomever caught it to ask the visitors a question.
To prepare pupils ahead of the visit, they completed a short task to get them thinking about their careers. Featuring BBC Presenter, Katie Thistleton, the short clip asked pupils to take a look at the Bitesize Careers website where they can check out many different jobs related to subjects taught at school. After selecting two they had to identify what surprised them about the jobs or did they perhaps discover a job they'd never heard or before.
