Car enthusiasts - can you help?
14 May 2018
We have a kit car at Priory in need of a little TLC. We also have a bunch of budding engineers who are in need of someone with knowledge of vehicle mechanics to be the missing part they’re look for to move a project forward.
Greenpower Education Trust is a UK-based charity which gets young people enthusiastic about science and engineering by challenging them to design, build and race an electric car – see www.greenpower.co.uk for more information.
The car we have at Priory is a Formula 24. It needs an initial assessment to establish the viability of fixing the car – it maybe that repair costs are prohibitive or will it simply need a few spare parts?
Could you be the person to help our pupils bring it back into action?
There are plenty of educational resources to support the project and spare parts will be available for us to purchase (subject to budget).
Anyone interested is welcome to come into school to assess its current condition in the first instance and have a chat with the Learning Manager, Mrs Nayler, without obligation.
We are looking for someone who could spare maybe an hour a
week to work with a small group of Year 7, 8 & 9 pupils. The timings would depend on your availability but ideally, an evening after school would be perfect. This would suit maybe a car maintenance enthusiast or retired engineer.
If the project is successful, there are regular races organised via Greenpower, with the next one scheduled for mid-September at Aintree.
Please contact Mrs J Nayler at school on 01772 320250 or email j.nayler@priory.lancs.sch.uk.
