GCSE Results - A Summary

Overall, we’ve maintained a lot of the good results that we got last year and continued to improve results in several key areas as well, despite the new qualifications containing more challenging content and a different assessment regime. So we’ve continued to do well.

We’re particularly pleased that the number of pupils achieving the new government measure of a ‘strong pass’ (at grade 5 and above) has improved in the vast majority of key performance indicators and although we’ve seen a dip in our Maths results, this appears to reflect the national picture on account of the new, more challenging GCSE.

Our pupil premium pupils have also improved in several of the key performance indicators as well.

  • 59% of pupils achieved a grade 5+ (strong pass) in English – an increase of 5% from last year.
  • 72% achieved a grade 4+ (standard pass).
  • 41% of pupils achieved a grade 5+ (strong pass) in Maths – a slight decrease of 2% from last year.
  • 57% achieved a grade 4+ (standard pass).
  • 38% of pupils achieved a grade 5+ (strong pass) in English and Maths – an increase of 4% from last year.
  • 55% achieved a grade 4+ (standard pass).
  • 28% of pupil premium pupils achieved a grade 5+ (strong pass) in English and Maths – an increase of 13% from last year.
  • 44% achieved a grade 4+ (standard pass).
  • 9 pupils gained a grade 9 (the highest grade to be awarded under the new grading system) in either English Language, English Literature, Geography,  History or Maths.
  • In Maths, 7 pupils gained one of the top 3 grades of 7, 8 and 9.
  • In English Language, 19 pupils gained one of the top 3 grades as did 19 pupils in English Literature.
  • 7, 8 and 9 grades were also achieved in several other subjects, most notably Biology, Chemistry, Drama, History and Physics, each with 5 or more        pupils achieving these grades.
  • Some subjects achieved over a 90% grade 4+ pass rate including Physics and Spanish, whilst pupils achieved a 100% grade 4+ pass rate in Biology,  Chemistry, Dance and French.
  • Grade 4+ pass rates were also good in Geography 68% and Food Preparation 73%.
  • In other subjects where A*-C grades still apply, results continued to be excellent. Most notably, the A*-C pass rate was particularly good in subjects like Electronic Products 72%, Graphic Products 77% and ICT 80%, whilst pupils achieved a 100% A*-C pass rate in Italian, Polish and Urdu.
  • 97% of pupils achieved either a pass, merit or distinction in BTEC Sport.

These results are testimony to the hard work and dedication of staff and pupils and the lengths they are willing to go, in collaboration with each other, to do as well, academically as they can. Pupils say of the staff at Priory that they are always willing to go the extra mile to help them and this has certainly proved the case this year with our results in so many subject areas.
