Priory students saw their GCSE text come to life at a performance of Romeo & Juliet at the Lancaster Grand Theatre last week.

The Year 10s made the trip to watch the National Theatre Company production of the William Shakespeare play which is part of their English Literature GCSE.

The students admitted it was an entertaining evening but also an educational one as it helped them understand the play better.

Amber said: “We haven’t finished reading the play yet so there were a few surprises but it did help us visualise what happens. You can picture what Juliet is feeling, rather than just see it in text.”

Jo-Ann said: “It will really help me with my studies. It was good to watch it live and discuss it.”

Alice added: “It definitely helped me understand the play better. One of the actors was playing a part for the first time so it was good to encourage them as well.”

Head of English Mrs Gidden said: “The students are reading the play and some have seen the film but I think seeing it on stage is a much better way of understanding it.

“Some of the actors and actresses doubled up their roles so it did lead to some confusion but it made the students ask questions and think about what they had seen.

“They will be able to relate to the play better now - although it did spoil the ending!”
