Priory were crowned Secondary School of the Year at a glittering South Ribble Sports Award Ceremony last Friday night.

The awards, held at the Leyland Hotel and now in their fourteenth year, celebrated all the great clubs, coaches, sportspeople and volunteers from around the borough.

Priory’s entry was strong, detailing all the sports events both in school time and extra-curricular activities as well as the work our sports team do with primary schools and the various refereeing courses we hold to encourage students to get involved with sport at all levels. We also host events, such as netball and football, on behalf of the South Ribble Partnership as well as strong links with Preston North End, Newman College and Penwortham Town, among others.

Head of PE and Sports Mr Bullock said: “We were honoured to win the award, Priory is very strong for sport and this reflects it.  Our sports teams are always competitive and we have individuals who have excelled at their chosen sport such as Libby at synchronised swimming, Jazmin at football and Leon at BMX riding, among others.”

Councillor Mick Titherington, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing & Leisure said: “I am absolutely staggered by the amount of talent that we have in South Ribble. These awards not only celebrates those who have won, but also those who take part in the various sports that are available across our borough and I think this emphasises the important role that sport plays in our lives.”

Synchronised swimming Libby and BMX rider Leon were both nominated for the Lewis Balyckyi Rising Star Award and, while they didn’t win, everyone at Priory is proud of their achievements so far and knows they will have further successes.
