Priory’s Head of English, Mrs Gidden, has been really impressed with many of our multi-talented pupils lately and wanted to highlight their love of reading while excelling at other pursuits.

This week we interviewed Year 8 pupil, Pat ...

Pat admits he reads and reads … and then reads some more!

Year 8 student Pat enjoys reading so much he is thinking about writing books himself in his future career.

“I am currently reading Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan. It’s about a ranger who is trying to save someone stuck in a tower.

“It’s based in the medieval era and I like mythology as well. My favourite subject is history so I like books like this. After reading a few words I am usually hooked and I imagine myself in that world watching everything.

“I enjoyed reading The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins about a boy called Gregor who falls into the Underworld where rats rule.

“I read every day and I read three big books in Year 7 and am already reading my fourth in Year Eight.  In the future I would like to be an author.”

...and we also spoke to Year 7 pupil, Ally.

Ally is reading ‘Head Kid’ where the student becomes the Head Teacher – he might want to be Mr Eastham next!

Head Kid is by comedian David Baddiel.

“It’s about a boy, Ryan Ward, who is the naughtiest student at the school and a new head comes in who is very strict. They end up swapping bodies and Ryan takes over the school, the new head becomes the student, and he tries to make it fun.

“I like fantasy books and this is really good so far.”

Away from reading, Ally plays football for Penwortham St Theresa’s, he has just joined.

At school, he enjoys PE and Maths.
