Mrs Gidden's cool readers club - Lucas

Priory’s Head of English, Mrs Gidden, has been really impressed with many of our multi-talented pupils and wanted to highlight their love of reading while excelling at other pursuits.

This week we interviewed Year 7 pupil, Lucas.

Lucas is a keen football player and has now been selected as one of Mrs Gidden’s Cool Readers.

Lucas plays for Penwortham Town on the right wing and is also a big Manchester United fan, although he has been to watch Preston North End a few times.

His favourite subject at Priory is PE but he also enjoys reading fantasy books.

“My favourite books are the ‘Tom Gates’ series by Liz Pichon about a boy and his friend and their lives at school. They are easy to read and there are a lot of pictures to show events as well so it makes them even more interesting.”

The 12-book series is about Tom and, in book one, he is the master of excuses for late homework, whether it’s dog attacks, spilt water, lightning and more.

Tom's exercise book is full of his doodles and thoughts, as well as comments from his long-suffering teacher, Mr Fullerman.

“I read mostly in school as I like to play sport out of school.”
