From Paddington Bear to The Hungry Caterpillar, World Book Day meant staff and pupils were busy decorating their classroom doors all about their favourite books.

As we went to press Head of English, Mrs Gidden, was still to judge who did it best although it's been highly competitive!

The English department planned a host of activities over the week, which involved reading time in lessons, a book trivia treasure hunt and a ‘Book Face’ quiz where pupils had to guess which staff member was hiding behind a book in a photo.

English teachers dedicated lessons to their favourite author and books while, for the more creative pupils, there was a competition to design an alternative cover for their most treasured book.

Mrs Gidden commented: "Today, the treasure hunt was just adorable!"

"We had over 35 pupils running around school at lunchtime. They first had to answer a question about a book and then, upon getting it right, they were posed a riddle about which member of staff held the next clue. For example, ‘Which teacher reads for SPORT?’ A: Mr Bullock ‘Which teacher thinks books ROCK and POP?’ A: Mr Taylor. The quiz culminated in a question about Harry Potter before the pupils ran back to me for the final Shakespeare question which determined the winners."

The whole treasure hunt was written and coordinated by Violet S (C6) and Emily B (H7) who have been awarded points.  Four teams won prizes.
