Year 7 and 8 pupils take up advance cycling course
5 November 2021
On Tues, 9 November we were fortunate to be able to offer a limited number of places on a Level 3 Bikeability course delivered by the South Ribble Borough Council's Active Health Team.
The Level 3 course equips participants with the skills needed to stay safe in more challenging urban situations. This advanced course leads on from Level 1 & 2 Bikeability, which pupils usually complete at primary school, and teaches how to ride and navigate complex roads and respond confidently.
The course was aimed specifically at Year 7 and 8 pupils, with the practical course taking place on roads in the local area, under supervision.
The course was 2 hours in duration and pupils learned to:
• Prepare for a journey
• Understand advanced road positions
• Pass queuing traffic
• Perceive and deal with hazards
• Understand driver blind spots
• React to hazardous road surfaces
• Navigate roundabouts
• Understand multi-lane roads and
• Traffic lights
Well done to the pupils that took part:
Harriet H, Layla H, Chloe R, Caleb H, Corbyn H, Caitlin P, Ellis T, Seth L, Tom M, Cavan C, Declan D, Christopher C
