Our Year 7s continue to impress us every day and we want to highlight some of the amazing clubs that these pupils have started and are open to all year groups to join.

Despite only being in school since September, they have settled in and found their feet, expressing what they love doing in their spare time by starting their own clubs which they run. They are so enthusiastic about them and spend many hours making sure these clubs run smoothly, that they complement their lessons and they educate as well as being fun.

This is the second of two articles where we feature these clubs.

The Year 7 History Club certainly takes some beating in enthusiasm and organisation. This is run by Harley, Charlie and Year 10 Molly.

Harley said: “My topic is 1485- Modern History, Charlie is anything before 1485 while Molly’s speciality is American History.  We have PowerPoints, magazines, activities and much more.”

Charlie said: “I like learning about the past and how it links to the present, you can piece it altogether. I like ancient and medieval history as it’s really different to modern day, it just seems a lot simpler.”

History Club takes place in Mr Mo's room every Tuesday at break and lunch.

Matilda and Emilie founded the Book Club every Monday after school in the library.

Matilda said: “We are reading Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’ and, at our Book Club, we all read it together.

“If you want, you can read a bit out loud and we go around the room but there is no pressure. It’s just an enjoyable way of reading, altogether.”

The Art Club is run by Josh and Lewis who are enthusiastic about art.

Lewis said: “Everyone loves art! We just do different things like origami and painting. We do plan each session and it’s just for fun really.”

Charlie started the Geography Club and has enjoyed so far making his own country.

“We decided to make our own micro-nation called ‘Mapland’ and it has its own flag, national anthem and currency. I am also in the Eco-Club so I am taking it further in that there is a bin in Humanities to collect plastic bottles and we will make these into things then sell them in the Mapland’s currency. We are finding out everything it takes to run a country."

Geography Club is every Monday after school in HU4.
