Meet Priory's new English leaders
10 November 2023
Priory’s English Department has a fresh look with a new Head of English and Assistant Head of English.
Ms Beswick is leading the way in the department while Miss Hearn has come to Priory with plenty of experience to continue its success.
Ms Beswick is from Leyland and has spent the last 13 years at St Bede’s Catholic High School in Lytham.
“I was Assistant Subject Lead there. I initially studied journalism at UCLan and worked in Marketing and Admissions at Newman College. I went into schools as part of this and enjoyed it and decided I wanted to teach.
“Here we want to ensure our English curriculum is challenging for everyone, engaging and pupils think about English in different ways. I am excited for the challenge ahead.”
Miss Hearn completed her English Language and Literature degree in Leeds before actually going into a job in Marketing.
“I did it part-time when I was doing my degree and then I went into it full-time and didn’t really enjoy it and teaching was something I had considered.
“I did my PGCE at Edge Hill University and have taught at Holy Cross Catholic High School in Chorley for the last five years where I was Assistant Head of Year.
Miss Hearn continues, “As soon as I walked into Priory, I felt the community and family feel of the school which attracted me straight away.
“At Priory, I want to inspire a love of reading. Reading should be accessible for everyone, whatever level, and we want to show you can read in different ways, not just sit with a book. It’s exciting to be here!”
