Year 11 College MEGA Day Inspires Futures in Digital and Technology
21 October 2025
On Wednesday 8 October, a group of enthusiastic Year 11 students took part in an exciting MEGA Day at Runshaw College, designed to ignite interest in the fast-growing digital and technology sectors.
The event was delivered by the award-winning IN4 Group, in partnership with Lancashire County Council, and offered students a unique opportunity to explore future-focused careers in a hands-on, engaging environment.
The MEGA Day was fully funded with our students arriving ready to dive into the world of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital innovation.
The day began with a warm welcome and a guided tour of the college’s impressive facilities, giving students a glimpse into the opportunities available for further study and career development. This was followed by an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), where students learned how AI is transforming industries and reshaping the future of work.
Working in teams, students were challenged to become AI Entrepreneurs for the day. Their task? To design an innovative AI-powered solution to a real-world problem set by industry professionals. Through a mix of ideation, digital tool integration, and collaborative thinking, students developed their ideas and prepared to pitch them in a high-energy Dragon’s Den-style showdown.
The day also featured a fun Kahoot quiz to reinforce key AI concepts, and plenty of time for teamwork and creativity. In the final session, students presented their pitches to a panel of business, education, and local representatives, showcasing their enterprise, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Awards were given to celebrate outstanding ideas and teamwork, and students returned to school buzzing with inspiration and new knowledge.
Head of ICT & Computing, Mrs Qadri, said, “The MEGA Day not only helped raise aspirations but also equipped our students with valuable digital skills and insights into exciting career pathways in technology and innovation.
“I’m incredibly proud of Year 11 for their enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork throughout the day. Events like these play a vital role in helping young people make informed decisions about their futures, and we look forward to seeing where their digital journeys take them next!”
