Image of Celebrating Black History Month Through Food & Assemblies

Last Friday, our school came together to celebrate Black History Month with a vibrant and meaningful food sale. Students and staff enjoyed a delicious array of traditional African and Caribbean treats, including Chin Chin, Mandazi, Puffs, and Cupcakes adorned with toppers featuring iconic Black figures from history and culture.

The event was not only a celebration of heritage and identity but also a fundraiser for a vital cause. We’re proud to share that we raised over £100 for Black Minds Matter, a charity dedicated to supporting the mental health of Black individuals and communities.

Before the end of break, Culture Club leader & Head of ICT, Mrs Qadri managed to gather the team of helpers together for a photo with our BHM flag too!

Celebrating Black History Month Through Learning for Life Assemblies

Alongside the food sale, throughout the week, Head Prefects Tarela and Hiylie delivered assemblies during Learning for Life sessions to pupils across years 7-10.

Commencing with Martin Luther King Jnr’s captivating quote “The time is always right to do what is right“, Tarela went on to outline the history of Black History Month.  Pupils were asked to have a go at identifying the ethnicity of well-known celebrities such as Zendaya and Idris Elba before notable Black figures were highlighted for their achievements and the impact they have made on the world.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, baked, bought, listened and supported. Your generosity and enthusiasm helped make our celebrations of Black people and their culture a joyful success!
