This is the second of a series of articles where we get to know our trainee teachers.  Trainee teachers attend two placements in the academic year so are with us either from September to Christmas or January to June. They initially observe then start to take over sections of lessons, leading to being in charge of several classes by the time they finish their placement with us. Along with assignments and studies in pedagogy, they work towards their Post Graduate Certificate in Education and Qualified Teacher Status by the end of the summer term.

This week we interviewed two trainee teachers who have been taken under the wings of the PE department.

Meet The Teacher - Mr Allen & Miss Smith (PE)

What made you want to become a teacher?

Mr Allen: I have always been into sport, I enjoy playing cricket, football and basketball and I recognise the help and support of the teachers I had at school. I will also have a tan from being outside all the time in the summer!

Miss Smith: I really enjoy sports, I started coaching when I was at university – I did a Sports Coaching Degree at UcLan – and it’s something I wanted to carry on.

What do you like about your placement at Priory?

Mr Allen: All the pupils are really friendly and they get involved, whether it’s lessons or extra-curricular activities. The staff have made me feel welcome too.

Miss Smith: The staff are so helpful. I am enjoying putting what I have learnt into practise.

What's the hardest thing about your job?

Mr Allen: At the moment, it’s juggling assignments and work, planning lessons and so on.

Miss Smith I agree with Mr Allen.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Mr Allen: Sport! I support Preston North End, I used to be a ball boy at Deepdale when I was young. I love football and cricket and play them mostly.

Miss Smith: Sport as well. I play football for Sir Tom Finney, I am a Liverpool fan. I play futsal as well.
