Year 11 GCSE History students took an opportunity to step back in time with a visit to Gawthorpe Hall near Burnley, as part of their upcoming study of Elizabethan England.

During the trip, which took place before the half term break, pupils were able to have two separate tours of the house tracing its roots from the early 1600s to the present day, with a chance to try on some period costume. The trip gave the Year 11s a chance to see the magnificent Renaissance architecture as well as the walled garden and estate's buildings.

Lead Teacher of History, Mr Eccles said, "It was a wonderful day; the National Trust staff commented on the fantastic behaviour of the students and look forward to welcoming us back in the future."

As part of their study of Elizabethan England, Year 11 historians will be focusing on Hardwick Hall a stunning late-Elizabethan property based outside Chesterfield. There is no obligation to visit the site as AQA (the awarding body) provides teachers with all the content they need to teach it, but parents are welcome to visit the site. The site is now a National Trust property, and opening times can be found on their website.
