It’s that time of year again when Mr Watters kicks off his annual shoe box campaign.

Everyone loves to receive a present at Christmas but for many vulnerable children and families in south east Europe Christmas serves as a reminder of their isolation and poverty. Priory has therefore chosen to support Oxfam's and UNICEF's Christmas box appeal to spread joy to thousands of people and fight poverty.

Priory’s Geography teacher has worked with his Year 8 Learning for Life group to lead the way in the campaign to support vulnerable people of all denominations.  Pupils have begun to sort through essential donations such as tooth brushes and winter woollies and added their unwanted goodies to produce gift boxes to needing communities.  Finishing off next week, they will be festively wrapping and tagging their boxes to be delivered to the local collection point where they will journey onwards to Eastern Europe.

Any pupil that wishes to support the campaign should take their filled shoe box to their Head of Year by Mon, 2 November, after our return from the half term break.  The boxes should be labelled for a child or adult including whether it’s suitable for a male/female/unisex.  Boxes for children should indicate an appropriate age group.  It is worth noting that the elderly are particular in need at this time of year.  Each box costs money to transport and store. It would be amazing if you could donate up to £3 per box too.

All pupils have watched a presentation during their Learning for Life virtual assembly this week where Mr Watters has provided further details.

Mr Watters commented, “This has been a successful and well-received appeal for the last 25 years at Priory. Our pupils enjoy planning what they would like to put in their boxes and how it will brighten someone's day. We are looking forward to sending even more boxes this year."

They are more than just a shoebox and they can help transform peoples’ lives for longer than a day.

Never under-estimate the power of a shoebox!
