It all added up for Ryan
23 November 2020
Whilst at Priory, Ryan took Maths masterclasses at Lancaster University which also supported his GCSE in Further Maths. This week we received his certificate.
Ryan, who moved on from Priory this summer, was nominated by Head of Maths, Mr Kenrick, to attend the Royal Institution's Mathematics Masterclass at the university as he wanted to push himself further.
“It’s over six weeks and it’s two-and-half hours every time. It’s to A-Level and degree level and I have learnt a lot from it", Ryan said at the time.
The RI Masterclasses are part of a nationwide programme of mathematics, engineering and computer science classes which have been running since 1981. The courses bring top experts from academia and industry together with keen and talented young people for hands-on and interactive extra-curricular sessions.
Ryan achieved a Grade 8 in Maths and a Grade 6 in Further Maths and is now doing both subjects at A-Level. He intends to carry on to do a degree in Maths.
Mr Kenrick commented, “This year our Year 11s were record breakers in terms of achieving Grades 7-9 in Maths because they are also sitting the Further Maths qualification. The extra GCSE has boosted their grades and we hope for even better results next year."
GCSE Further Maths sessions are with Mr Raynor every Tuesday after school for higher tier pupils. Pupils should discuss this with their Maths teacher if they are interested in the course.
