Remembrance Sunday
10 November 2024
We were tremendously proud of our Head Prefects on Sunday when Oliver, Chittara and Navah represented Priory at Penwortham's Remembrance service.
Accompanied by Head of Year 11, Mrs Bullock, the prefects paid their respects at Liverpool Road's war memorial where Oliver and Navah read out the names of Penwortham's WW1 fallen and Chittara laid a wreath.
Year 11 Emily J and Year 10 Phoebe W were also flag bearers for their Scout groups. We are very proud of them all.
"When you go home, tell them of us and say, for their tomorrow we gave our today."
What is Armistice?
Armistice was an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations. It began at 11am on 11 November 1918.
Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms.
To this day we mark Armistice Day around the United Kingdom with a two minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month.
"At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we will remember them."
