Year 11 pupil gains apprenticeship insight at Women In Engineering event
21 March 2025
Chittara learned a lot from a four-day BAE Systems Women in Engineering Apprenticeship insight event which she will take into the future.
The Year 11 heard about the event from Ms Smith, Lead Practitioner for Personal Development and Priory’s Careers Adviser, and enrolled on it.
Head Prefect Chittara said: “I saw it and was interested. I signed up and, while I answered the basic questions, you also had to shine with them and got an invite to attend.
“My dad is an engineer and he talks about how great it is and I find it amazing that you can construct something out of waste materials and other engineering feats.
“It was four days in my own time. There were two days on site and two days on-line.
“The first day was all about what it’s like to be an apprentice at BAE and the benefits.
“The second day was a site visit to Samlesbury looking at how everything works and all the different parts of the company. I got to sit in a Hawk which was a big perk!
“Day three was learning about on-line interviews and then day four was the actual interview, which was stressful but I settled into it. I was surprised as they said I did well and came across as confident which was a boost.
“I was encouraged by how well I did. I want to go to college and study Maths, Physics, Economics or maybe Chemistry A-Levels as that should give me more options and then maybe do a degree apprenticeship.”
Ms Smith added, “I am pleased that Chittara takes up every opportunity given to her. In doing so, she is gaining a wide variety of skills and experience by particpating in these events and activities. I have no doubt that Chittara will go on to great things in her future and achieve all her aspirational dreams. I would hope that when she is Priory alumni, she comes back to us to share her successes. “
Whilst applications for the next event have not opened yet, further information about the BAE SYSTEM’s Insight experience for women in engineering can be found here>> www.baesystems.com/en/careers/careers-in-the-uk/apprenticeships/insight-experiences. Pupils should speak to Ms Smith if they are interested in the programme.
