Duke of Edinburgh Pupils Ready To Celebrate Bronze and Silver Awards
20 September 2025
The Duke of Edinburgh Award isn’t just about hiking and camping; it’s also about discovering new skills, building friendships, and seeing your teachers in a whole new light!
“You find out teachers are fun!” That was the verdict from Mrs Cauchi’s Duke of Edinburgh Year 10 Bronze Award pupils.
There is obviously much more to the DofE but our current Year 10s are celebrating their Bronze Award as Year 11s await to collect their Silver Award after receiving their Bronze Award in the last school year.
The Bronze Award involves the DofE Participation Award where pupils have to complete three official DofE sections: Volunteering, Physical and Skill. To achieve the actual Bronze Award, pupils also have to complete a two-day expedition, with overnight camping where pupils put up their own tents and cook for themselves, working as a team.
Ben said: “We went to Bibby’s Farm at Rivington for our overnight expedition and it was fun. We made great memories playing games at night.
“I volunteered for three months to help with my brother’s training at Penwortham Town FC.”
Dan said: “I volunteered at Penwortham St Theresa’s football club. I enjoyed cooking at our expedition. It was a good time and we found out teachers are fun!”
Wren said: “I volunteered as a Young Leader at the scouts at Middleforth Primary School and I have continued to do that.
“The expedition was fun, it was camping with my friends so I enjoyed it.”
Lilly added: “I volunteered at my stepmum’s hair salon. I liked swimming in the lake at Bibby’s Farm.”
The Silver Award is a step further with more outdoor activities.
Year 11’s Taylor, Harvey, Aaron, Anna, Hannah and Will were just some of the eighteen participants who took part in this in the last school year.
Mrs Cauchi took the pupils rock climbing in the Lake District and they also went to Whitehough Outdoor Centre in Pendle, walking up Pendle Hill in a practice run, while their actual expedition was in the Lake District.
Harvey said: “It’s a nice achievement to receive the DofE Silver Award. The Lake District expedition was fun, I enjoyed playing cards!”
Will said: “The teachers were different on the expedition, they were a lot more fun! I enjoyed rock climbing and learnt a lot of new skills including team work. I also enjoyed playing football with Mr Hunter, he is quite a good goalkeeper!”
Hannah said: “It was great being out with my school friends. The Silver Award is a good achievement for my CV.”
