And not forgetting our gardens
10 July 2020
Whilst most of us have been remote teaching and learning, our gardener, Mr Farron, has been adding more features to the school's great outdoors.
In tribute to the NHS, he trimmed down an ‘unruly’ Baggensen’s Gold shrub into a heart for our key workers. He has also transformed another shrub – he hasn’t decided yet whether it’s going to be a phoenix or a peacock but the students have watched it evolve with interest and keep asking questions about it.
Mr Farron has also grown a Manuka plant, a native of New Zealand and quite rare in the UK. He has grown it from a number of cuttings and, as bee keeping is one of his hobbies, he plans to make Manuka honey out of it from his cutting at home.
In the Guild Garden Mr Farron decided to have a Teddy Bears picnic, using some of his children's one-time cuddly toys.
"I was just trying to add a bit of fun in these weird times. It's always good to raise a smile."
The Herbaceous Garden at Priory is Mr Farron's pride and joy. It is full of perennials and, from each window in the school, you see a different design and garden. It’s colourful, full of a variety of plants carefully tended by Mr Farron including the Dazzling Amber rose, Jelly and Ice Cream flower and the ‘Joy of Life.’
