Calculated Success for Priory at Maths College
26 June 2025
Four top Priory pupils celebrated winning a tough maths competition at LUSoM (Lancashire University School of Mathematics) on Thursday.
Head of Maths Mr Kenrick selected a team of four Year 7 and 8 pupils who had excelled in the recent UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, run by the UK Maths Trust.
Zach, who was the Best in School at the recent UKMT competition, alongside Kayden, Adam and Dexter all spent the morning at LUSoM taking part in solving maths puzzles and problems.
There were 13 schools from across Lancashire competing for the top prize - with Priory pupils celebrating first place.
Zach said: "It was similar to the UKMT Challenge. There was a lot of problem solving. We were happy to win as a team."
They each won a goody bag full of items like calculators, a puzzle game and more.
Mr Kenrick said: "It was a hard competition but we were delighted to come first.
"It was good to go to LUSoM. We had a Year 12 looking after us. He told us all about LUSoM, how they have a drop down curriculum to do puzzles one day, all about the different modules and also opportunities at BAE Systems and Dyson.
“He talked really positively about the college and it is the best college for maths around here so to win the competition there means a lot."
