Last week our Year 9 Boys football team hosted St Bede's school, Ormskirk, in the Lancashire Cup.

The early stages were closely contested before St Bede's scored the opening goal. Despite the setback, Priory continued to play neat football and a good run from Heaton, dribbling down the left wing before a clever pass in to Mapstone who took the ball into the area before finishing confidently.

St Bede's responded by pushing forward and retook the lead before half time. With the contest closely poised at half time, Priory's start to the second half was crucial. Coming out quickly after the break, the equaliser came through Heaton, to the obvious delight of the group of Year 9 boys supporting the team.

Both teams then went close to taking the lead with chances at both ends, Dixon pulling off some great saves to repel the St Bede's attacks.

With time ticking down, Priory attacked down the left with a ball over the top of the defence. Heaton ran through the defence and reached the bouncing ball before the on-rushing keeper. His shot looped over and into the net, sparking more wild celebrations between players and spectators. The match ended soon after with a 3-2 scoreline to Priory.

The cup run will continue in the New Year with a trip to Carnforth in the next round.
