Before the May half term break, a group of pupils had the opportunity to take part in an unforgettable educational visit to Belgium and France, exploring some of the most significant First World War sites. The trip provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of history while demonstrating maturity, respect and outstanding behaviour throughout.

The visit included a number of historic locations, such as preserved trenches, museums, cemeteries and memorials connected to the First World War. Walking through these sites allowed pupils to gain a greater appreciation of the experiences and sacrifices made by those who served during the conflict. 

One of the most poignant moments of the trip was attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres. Pupils witnessed this moving act of remembrance, joining visitors from around the world in honouring the soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War.

The group also attended another commemorative ceremony, during which pupils laid a wreath on behalf of the school. This was a great honour and provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Throughout the visit, pupils showed exceptional respect and sensitivity at every memorial and cemetery. Staff were particularly impressed by the thoughtful way pupils engaged with the historical sites, reflected on the stories they heard and conducted themselves during the remembrance ceremonies.

Following the battlefield visits, pupils also enjoyed spending time in Disneyland Paris, providing an exciting contrast to the historical aspect of the trip and giving everyone the opportunity to celebrate a successful few days together. 

The trip was a memorable experience that combined learning, reflection and enjoyment. Pupils returned with a greater understanding of history, a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices made by previous generations and memories that will stay with them for years to come.
