All in good time for Year 10 runner Ben
19 July 2021
Athlete Ben has used lockdown to improve his running skills.
Ben, 14, took part in park runs before lockdown and became a member of Preston Harriers.
During the last year, he has taken part in a number of virtual half marathons, clocking an amazing time of one hour 45 minutes.
He has been training hard on his own, doing long runs on Sundays, and has seen his times come down.
“I run 1,500 to 5,000m and my personal best for 1,500m is four minutes 50 seconds and, for 5,000m it’s around 18 minutes and 30 seconds.
“I have had to do a lot of training on my own, I got a treadmill during lockdown and also went out running on my own, following a training plan.
“We are back training now with Preston Harriers three times a week although I have had a groin strain for the last month.
“I like the competitiveness of running. I have also taken part in a sprint triathlon as well (400m swim, 10k bike ride, 3k run) and I enjoyed that.”
