South Ribble Cross Country Championships
21 November 2022
Last Saturday, 19 November, our talented runners made their way to Hutton Grammar School for the annual South Ribble cross country event.
The sun was shining down on our athletes as they prepared to tackle the gruelling course on what was a fresh and sunny morning. There were some fantastic team and individual performances with a number of Priory pupils' finishing in positions leading to invites to represent South Ribble at the Lancashire competition in the New Year.
The Year 10s and 11s began the event with Jack T (Year 11) setting the tone finishing in a magnificent 5th place. Race by race, Priory was represented by some fantastic displays of courage and determination with great results for the girls - Jane W (Year 9) achieving a very respectable 14th place in the Year 8/9 race and Anais McM (Year 10) finishing 16th in the Year 10/11 race. Ethan H (Year 9) ran in at 16th place in the Year 8/9 boys' race out of over 70 runners.
The Year 7s tied up the morning events, eleven of our newcomers took to the course, with three boys finishing in the top 20, Josh M in 15th, Finn T in 11th, all topped off by an outstanding finish from Excellence I placing 4th.
Overall, Priory's Year 7 boys came second out of all the South Ribble schools that took part, with Year 8 & 9 girls team coming in 5th in their category.
The organisers commented, "It was great to see so many happy faces competing on the day - the weather also helped! It was the best attendance we have seen in recent years and the event shows how PE and school sport can contribute to the personal development and overall well-being of everyone involved."
It was wonderful to have many parents/carers in attendance spectating throughout the morning who showed their appreciation and support for all of the runners. This creates an amazing atmosphere and experience for the runners.
PE Teacher, Miss Beesley, summed up by saying, "A huge thank you to all pupils who took part on the day - your effort is greatly appreciated."
