How did Summer School go then?
Over 120 excited new year 7's joined our superb summer school staff over three days, between 19th-21st August. This year's theme focused on the 'Olympics'. All students were divided into teams of 11 countries and the cohort sampled a range of activities over the three days.
Monday explored 'getting to know you' activities, a superb Olympic baking session delivered by our Vice Principal, Mrs Cowell, an informative history session by Mrs Cauchi and an Olympics quiz ran by Mrs Willis, Family Support Manager and Summer School lead.
Tuesday saw Mr Bullock and Mrs Bullock deliver a full day allowing students to sample a range of sports. From athletics, racket sports, basketball and cricket. We were so proud of every student and the effort and determination they put into trying new activities.
Our final day - The 'closing ceremony' allowed students to participate in a fun and exciting science practical where they had the opportunity to make their very own slime. Students participated in 'school navigation' sessions where they were able to explore the school as a whole and attempt to break the code. Compass Bloom a mental health charity completed a session with all the cohort to break the transition 'myths'. This is a service that work closely with the school and further sessions will become available to all year groups throughout the year. Before the end of the day, and celebration assembly, students sampled an exciting session with our Geography teacher, Mr Momoniat.
Mrs Willis said, "The students were a pleasure to work with and have made amazing first impressions. We look forward to meeting them on their official first day."
